The information in these planning pages apply to any long distance hike. We have left information in the pages that shows the way our thinking has progressed from hike to hike. 

We included some other planning information websites in our links page. 

Another great source of information is the mailing lists for the long distance trails. Information and subscription information is available for many of the long distance trails at http://www.backcountry.net/ .  The AT mailing list has highest traffic and frequently gets onto political discussions. The CDT list usually has very little traffic, but is monitored by many , very experienced hikers. The PCT list is in between. I haven't followed the other mailing lists on the website.
