5/26, day 30, 7660′, 14 mi.
We left spectacular Ghost Ranch after lunch. Meals were cafeteria style with limited menu but food was delicious.
We also did some shopping at the trading post, laundry, and mended Ken’s pack with needle and dental floss.
We saw a plaque saying the ranch has been continuously raising cattle for over 400 years. Another plaque said it was the headquarters of the Archuleta brothers rustling operation.
Once we got to US 84 the road walk started again but now it is the CDTA official route. It was a steady gentle climb all afternoon with mesas, rock of all colors, bottom lands with green areas; all was in view today. Chimney Rock was visible as we left Ghost Ranch. Echo Amphitheater was visible from the road.
