Mt Hood was hidden in the forest until we got within 14 miles of it. It was spectacular when it popped into view.

Even with a late start at Ollalie, we made the 55 miles to Timberline in two days. Must have been the brownies we picked up at Ollalie Lake.

As we got onto the shoulders of Mt Hood we were hiking in deep, sandy ash.
A view of the deep volcanic canyons we crossed when circling the Cascade volcanoes.

The creeks were hard to cross because the water was so milky from volcanic ash that we couldn't see where we were stepping. Also most the streams were flowing fast and deep.

One of the old Pacific Crest Trail System blazes.
