We decided to go straight to Vermillion (Lake Edison) from Kennedy Meadows. We
figured it was 9 days, but would we wouldn't have to re-supply out of the high
sierra.
Our first bear
siting, just
south of Sequoia National Park. It bothered us that this bear was not afraid
of us at all. It sniffed our scent and casually strolled across the meadow
in front of us.
Lots of meadows with
wandering streams in this area. No more worries about finding water!
The backside of Mount
Whitney taken from Bighorn Plateau.
We decided not to summit Whitney. It saved us packing a days food and we
had been there several times before.
Another sierra view. No
wonder we love it up here.
This little stretch of
ice made us glad we had ice axes. The field is just below Forester Pass at
approximately 13,000 feet. It was frozen solid and the foot steps sloped
down the mountain. No room for mistakes here.
But we made it to the
top of Forester Pass, 13,180 feet. This is the highest point on the PCT
.
