This
trail started in gigantic eucalyptus trees along a large lawn and picnic area.
The temperature was a bit cool when we started up the hill. That is Marcia
walking between the trees in the picture to the right.
We soon warmed up as we
climbed up above San Pablo Dam and reservoir. We continued to switch back up the
hill. As we arrived at Upper Sea Foam Trail we met a mother and daughter who
were also hiking the Trail Challenge.
This open stretch of
grassy trail was filled with butterflies and small flowers as we climbed the
ridge. We found views of Richmond and San Pablo Reservoir all along the
trail.
As the Upper Sea Foam
Trail reached the top of the ridge we entered an oak forest. We enjoyed the
pleasant stroll along the top of the ridge in the shade of the oaks. At the end
of the ridge we switch backed down the hill to a fire road. At this point the
guide says to turn right but the map obviously turns left. We decided to follow
the map and made the correct decision. We intersected the Lower Sea Foam Trail
in 1/4 mile and returned along
the grassy park of Kennedy Grove.
