Nimitz Trail

Camila joined us again on this morning hike. We drove up to Inspiration Point and found the parking lot half full of cars. It looked like lots of people were on the trail this morning. We saw hikers, joggers, and bikers, but not as many as we expected from the number of cars in the parking lot.

The trail was listed as moderate, but it really wasn't to hard. We expected to turn around at the border to Wildcat Park. When we neared Wildcat Park we realized we were only about halfway out the trail. It was another 2 miles before we turned around.

As we enjoyed bay views from the end of the trail I read that European explorers found Wildcat Canyon in 1722. The found native Americans there as they were looking for a trading route to the north of the bay.

As we walked along the paved trail we realized that we were above the Kennedy Grove Trail we hiked about 2 weeks ago.  Soon we could even see the Sea Foam Trail we had hiked. It climbed the hillside above San Pablo Dam.

We could see Mt Diablo to the east, Mt Tamalpais to the west, San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge to southwest. The Golden Gate Bridge was barely visible on the outward leg of our hike. By the time we returned the fog had lifted and we could see it well. We could even see the lighthouse on Alcatraz. Good views all around!
