This was a long flat hike on a perfect walking day. Our friend Camila joined us for the hike. We saw an amazing number of birds along a trail woven between suburban homes. We crossed many streets, a few waterways, and crossed under BART and I-680.

The homes have many flowers growing through and over the fences. There were lots of bicycles, walkers, and  joggers on the trail.

At the end of the trail we spent a few minutes eating lunch and a cool drink from the water fountain in La Junta Park. There was also a nice view of Mt Diablo across Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek.

Then it was time to turn around and follow the canal back to our car. On the way back up the trail we saw a family of ducklings with the hen. The drake was carefully between us and his family.
