The preparation for the CDT seems like much more that the PCT. The PCT was a completed trail from Mexico to Canada. The CDT doesn't exist as trail in some places. Also there are many options, some called cut-offs, that different thru-hikers have traveled in different areas. Some of these options are documented in guide books, others are not.

After a route is determined, we have to determine the mileages (and days) between re-supply points. Then we started buying food. Buying is a huge job, but repackaging everything into re-supply boxes is even bigger. It didn't help that we changed directions in the midst of packing our boxes. This picture is of most of our food. It got worse before we finished.

Notice the boxes of shoes stacked at the right-front of the desk. All the New Balance 804's we could find, and Ken still needed more.

We were lucky to have friends fly us to the start of our trek again. It is such a nice way to start off. Bert & Marta will fly us by private plane to Deming and drive us to the Mexican border. Then we'll be off to Canada, but it will take us about 5 months to get there
