I lost my sunglasses this afternoon and am so upset. I wore them on the other trails and was fond of them because they were a gift. I also am without backups so I'll have to see what I can find in Port Clinton.
We walked thru 2 old town sites. One town was a coal mining and railroad equipment repair site. Now there is a limestone filter to clean the creek. We got to walk several miles on old rail bed. That is always a treat because it is an easy grade and smooth trail bed. We camped at 501 shelter. The shelter was a double garage sized building with a large table in the center. Over the table was a large octagonal skylight. We cooked supper in the shelter and set up our tent in the dark. As we approached the shelter we encountered a couple of groups of day hikers at a beautiful overlook. They were interested in our hike and asked lots of questions.

Grover, a hiker with a small radio, said rain was forecast for today. So the sprinkles started as we were folding the tent. They continued all day interspersed with sunshine. Finally the sunshine gave way to rain around 6:30 pm.

Ken woke up at 4 am thinking "what a nice night". Five minutes later it started raining. We got soaked again. We hiked into Port Clinton in the rain. We had more PA rocks in the trail. The interesting thing was a 1000 foot drop, in the last mile. We headed for the motel to dry out and do laundry. We wanted to rest our feet for the rest of the day. We got one of 3 available rooms in town. There are 2 places to eat - in the 2 motels. No groceries available in town. Well the outfitter has cokes, ice cream, Snickers, and a few other hiker foods. We found an acceptable replacement pair of sunglasses for Marcia. We may walk the 2 miles to Wendy's for supper tonight. (Depends a lot on the weather.) There is a convenience store that may have some food items.
