Potential ADT hikers are asking us when they should start their hike. We think there are many variables involved in determining when to start your hike. It is important to realize the enormity of hiking across the continent. Be realistic about your hiking speed. If you estimate you can average 25 miles/day, conssider if it is reasonable to average a near-marathon daily for over 200 days!
Try entering your estimated hiking speed in miles per day and your start date. This spreadsheet will calculate your arrival in various cities across the country, both west and east bound. Notice that no zero days are included in the calculations so plan on sprinkling a few zero days into the calculated dates.
I have found that easiert way to use this spreadsheet is to highlight all the cells, copy them, and paste them into your own spreadsheet.
